What Presidential Courage?
Presidential Courage comes in many different sizes, shapes and forms. Presidential courage is doing what might consider is not the popular thing to do. It might me, the thing that that president thinks that needs to be done, or supporting something that that president believes in, even if the rest of the country may not see eye to eye. Presidential courage can come in a time of war, or it can come in great economical change. Presidential courage is the doing the not popular thing to do.
President Barack Obama
President Obama showed a great amount of courage during his political campaign run for re-election, he came out to the public with the stance of supporting gay marriage. Courage was shown in this act, because it was the unpopular thing to do. He showed the world his beliefs even though it could of cost him a re-election.
President Harry Truman
During the course of President Truman's career, he may have shown the most courage of all. President Truman, had to make the final choice to drop the A-bomb on Japan to end World War II. This was an act of courage, because by dropping the bomb, he knew he would be killing thousands of innocent civilian lives. However, dropping the bomb ultimately saved american lives as well. All in all, the decision was not an easy one, but President Truman showed a great amount of courage by making the ultimate decision to drop it.
President George W. Bush
One may not consider President Bush as one of the best presidents ever, however he did show a vast amount of courage during his presidential terms. President Bush showed great courage in his term by after 911, he decided to invade the Middle-East, not knowing if there was a bomb there or not, he still willingly through his country in there in effort to strike back at terrorism. For the greater good, or for the worse, he undoubtedly showed great courage by putting his country into a war.
Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was one of the most courageous presidents of all time because he was not afraid to support and show his stance against the abolishment of slavery. In a time where most of America was pro-slavery, President Lincoln was against it, all he wanted to do was end slavery, because he know that ALL men were created equal. President Lincoln showed a great extent of courage because he definitely did the not popular thing to do, and that was end slavery.
President Ronald Reagan
President Reagan showed a different courage, he showed courage by sizing up the Russians, during the Cold War. President Reagan never did cause blood shed, however, he never backed down from Russia in the ever so dangerous arms race. He put his country in harms way, to show that America is the most powerful country in the world, and it is not to be messing with. President Reagan showed great courage by sizing up the nuclear powered russians during the cold war.
